Some questions about Gaskets with inner and outer rings
you may be concerned about

What is the difference between inner ring and outer ring gaskets?

The inner ring is typically found on the inside of gaskets like spiral wound gaskets and serves purposes related to alignment, stability, and support.

The outer ring is often associated with gaskets contributing to the sealing mechanism by creating a metal-to-metal seal on the outer periphery of the gasket.

What is the three 3 categories of gasket?

Gaskets can be broadly categorized into three main types based on their material composition: Metallic Gaskets、Non-Metallic Gaskets、Semi-Metallic Gaskets.

What material is the inner and outer ring of a spiral wound gasket?

Inner Ring:The inner ring is often made from materials like stainless steel (e.g., 304, 316), carbon steel, or other alloys. Outer Ring:The outer ring of a spiral wound gasket is also typically made from metals like stainless steel, carbon steel, or alloyed steels. Additionally, some spiral wound gaskets may have coatings or surface treatments to further enhance their performance in specific environments.

Can I use an O-ring as a gasket?

Yes, an O-ring can be used as a gasket in certain applications. O-rings are a type of elastomeric sealing ring, typically made from materials like rubber, silicone, or other elastomers.

What does the inner ring do on a spiral wound gasket?

For a gasket to function properly in terms of alignment, stability, and sealing, the inner ring is essential. It adds to the gasket's overall efficacy in preserving a tight and trustworthy seal between mating flange surfaces throughout a range of industrial applications.

Quality, not quantity

We have made quality our habit. It’s not something that we just strive for – we live by this principle every day.

The Manufacture of Spiral Wound Gaskets

The main products include:seals, gaskets, metal wound gaskets, high-strength graphite composite gaskets, metal ring gaskets, and PTFE gaskets.

Multiple modern office equipment, fully functional, scientific and reasonable mechanized production lines

Modern equipment, assisted by traditional handicrafts, uses superb handcraftsmanship to make up for the problems that cannot be solved in current mechanical production.

Product Standards:

We can manufacture according to various standards such as ANSI B 16.20, MSS SP-44, API 605, DIN, JIS, JPI, BS 1560, JG/T, GB/T, HG, SH, or as specified by the user. We can galvanize or paint the surface according to your needs. If the gasket is intended for use in a heat exchanger and includes ribs, please provide specific drawings.

The inner ring is typically made of the same material as the steel strip to meet the requirements of the medium and operating conditions.

The outer ring is made of the same material as the pipeline and corresponding equipment casing, with carbon steel outer rings being more economical.

For specific orders, it is essential to specify the exact material, applicable standards, nominal diameter (DN), pressure rating (PN), or provide specific dimensions:

  • D1: Inner ring inner diameter

  • D2: Inner ring outer diameter

  • D3: Outer ring inner diameter

  • D4: Outer ring outer diameter

The notation for dimensions is: D1×D2×D3×D4. The default thickness for the gasket is 4.5mm, and the thickness for the ring is 3mm.

Gasket type:

If the gasket is used on a heat exchanger, we generally recommend a stainless steel wire inner ring with φ3.2mm.

Narrow band forms are divided into: adhesive type, covering type
